My 2010 Content Creation Commitment
Since My 2010 Stacked Physique Commitment has been going so well, I decided it was time to tackle another important area of my life with a similar public commitment. I’ve decided that as of today, May 1st, 2010, I will now publicly commit myself to consistently perform on creating content through my personal brand, OR ELSE!
Background
I’ve been creating content online, relating to my passions & interests, for over 5 years now. I had a cutting-edge vision for how I could build my personal brand, connect with awesome people, positively influence people’s lives with my insights, and build a great community of like-minded people. While the general population has caught on to what is now called “social media”, and my vision is not as cutting-edge anymore, the people aspect is still extremely meaningful and I am just as interested in achieving all of these fundamental things to great degrees. I’ve already experienced these on a small scale and it is awesome. I want to create an abundance of this in my life through my passions & interests.
Accomplishing this starts with consistently creating content of value and publishing it online to the world. My own lack of diligence with this has caused me to be very inconsistent here. I imagine that I’d already have a pretty abundant experience beyond my own personal life, if I had been as diligent as I had planned in creating content all of these years. It is typically not fun work for me to write or present content by myself, however, that is what I believe it primarily has to be. I really enjoy thinking about my interests, inventing ideas & insights, taking limited notes on them, and having deep conversations with interested people. So, I’m going to move towards including others in my content as well as doing more raw & real-time content, like live video broadcasts. But it all takes diligence on some level, so I must tackle the related diligence problem too, so that I can predictably perform at this stage of limited results.
On October 31st, 2009, I spontaneously got the idea & motivation to take a half-naked picture of my current physique and publicly commit to bodybuilding consistently or else have to post the picture online for the world to see if I don’t. That was titled “My 2010 Stacked Physique Commitment” and I am happy to say that it is succeeding with it. The public accountability & threat of consequence is still consistently motivating me to workout with diligence. So, now, I have the bright idea to leverage that same format of a time limited, public commitment with attached consequence to motivate myself enough to consistently create content through my personal brand.
My Commitment
Between today, May 1st, 2010, and January 1st, 2011, I will consistently create content through my personal brand or else I will publicly post a video where I share my views on an embarrassing topic here on brianwatkins.com for the entire world to see.
I have already recorded this video on an embarrassing topic and I will have to publish it to the world on January 1st, 2011, if I do not consistently create enough content.
Since I have several types of content that I’m committed to publishing, I am obligating myself to the following quotas & timeframes for the minimum level that I must perform on…
- Brian Watkins Magazine on brianwatkins.com: 1 issue per month with a maximum of 1 month lag.
- Blogging on brianwatkins.com: 1 blog per month with a maximum of 1 month lag.
- Podcasting on brianwatkins.com: 1 podcast per month with a maximum of 1 month lag.
- Podcasting on Open Achievement: 2 podcasts per month with a maximum of 1 month lag.
Also, since I want to include more people who have something interesting or of value to share, I’m going to obligate myself to consistently reaching out to others for this purpose…
I have never performed at this rate of production before with creating content. It may certainly be a challenge for me, but I feel ready to take it on and it is all for the betterment of my life & the lives of others. The key objective, beyond the production of content itself, is for me to establish the habit & pattern of diligence to consistently create content throughout the future of my life. I will also be letting a decent number of people in my personal network know about this commitment so that I can feel even more accountability & momentum in producing this.
Connection & Community
The biggest reasons why I want to consistently create content & build out my personal brand are the mutual benefits of creating connection & community with awesome, like-minded people. I absolutely love the experience & feelings of close connection & friendship with people I click with. Who doesn’t, right? It is human nature and one of the best parts of life, in my opinion. I’m the type of person who likes to overindulge in what I enjoy, so going beyond a small, traditional group of family & friends, to a building a connected community with a whole lot of like-minded people is what I need. Larger groups & communities that maintain a feeling of overall connection with people can ultimately bring more benefit to others as well, since there are more options & opportunities for personal connection & value to happen between individuals.
There are currently four key communities of like-minded people that I’d like to personally build at this point…
- My Personal Brand: A community of like-minded people to personally connect & share with through my personal brand.
- Open Achievement: Those interested in the study of human achievement, or just in me personally, centered around a profound project of mine that I’m very passionate about.
- Viper Squad: A specific group of personal friends that share my positive identity as a hedonistic rebel who want to have adventurous fun jet setting around the globe.
There will certainly be some overlap between these groups, but they all serve as important social circles that have a lot of meaning, value, & fulfillment within. It will likely take some time, potentially years, to develop these into the awesome vision that I have right now. I don’t care how long it takes, because it is well worth the wait. I plan for all of these communities to not just carryout online, but in-person as well, since I am a huge fan of face-to-face connection & interaction. However, online organization, communication, & content has become a fundamental component of creating & maintaining connection too. Ultimately, if the right people can do fun things like meetups, vacations, & adventures within each group, all in-person, and create magic memories together, then that is what can produce the vision I have. I’m fucking excited!
Also, the general subjects of content, which I have interest & passion for, that I primarily envision myself creating within throughout the future are…
- Human Achievement: How to achieve extraordinary results in life.
- Hedonistic Rebel: Edgy, R-rated, pleasurable lifestyle, yet still positive.

*****
My new public commitment for the remainder of 2010 is to consistently create content through my personal brand about my interests & passions or else I will have to publish a video of myself discussing my views on an embarrassing topic here on brianwatkins.com. I need to do this in order to get myself out there so that I can ultimately better create awesome connection & community with my types of people. This is going to be challenging & rewarding for me and I invite you to personally join me in this journey as I put myself out there more & more!

Brian,
Congrats on the commitment! My favorite part is about you requiring yourself to reach out to 1 new person a week for collaboration. That’s awesome, and I’m stoked for the new relationships this is going to add to your life. Also cool to see you publicly mentioning Viper Squad…
Thanks Namaste!!
I’m excited & challenged by this commitment. I definitely agree with the further growth that it will bring. Let me know if you would ever like to be a collaborator for a casual podcast about a fun topic!
